Q:  What does ‘Buildings’ cover? 

A: The home and its domestic outbuildings, garages, greenhouses, terraces, patios, drives, footpaths, walls, fences, interior decoration, hedges, gates, fixtures & fittings.

 

Q:  What does ‘Contents cover’?

A:  Household goods, furnishings, window dressings, carpets, flooring coverings, aerials for which you are responsible.

 

Q:  If the contents are damaged are they replaced with new?

A:  If the contents are damaged we will replace as new, as long as the sum insured is at least equal to the cost of replacing all the contents, however we may, at our discretion, pay the cost of repairing any item.


Q:  Can I get Immediate Cover?

A: Yes, but we would require immediate payment via debit/credit card over the telephone. If the method of payment was a cheque the cover would not start until the cheque had been received. Bank transfers are also available.


Q:  When will I receive my insurance documents?

A:  Your documents will usually be sent out the same day but please allow 5 working days.


Q:  Can I pay monthly?

A:  Yes, you will be asked to pay an initial payment and then the remainder of the premium would be spread over 11 monthly installments subject to standard terms & conditions.


Q:  What type of tenants are acceptable?

A:  Professional individuals, students, DSS & Local Authority and asylum seekers.


Q:  What is ‘property owner’s liability’?

A:  It protects you, as the home owner, against any claim made by a third party who may have suffered injury or even death to themselves as a result of your negligence, while they are on your property.


Q:  Is malicious damage by the tenant covered?

A:  Unlike many companies Rentshield Direct cover you by up to £5,000 for malicious damage caused by the tenant.


Q:  Is my rent affected if my property becomes unoccupied?

A:  We will pay up to 20% of the buildings sum insured for loss of rent if the home becomes unoccupied or partly unoccupied and cannot be let out due to one of the insured perils.


Q:  What happens if the home becomes unoccupied during the period of insurance or is unoccupied at the start of the insurance?

A:  We allow for unoccupancy for up to 90 days. If the property remains unoccupied for longer than 90 days we must be informed.


Q:  What is the policy excess on buildings & contents insurance?

A:  This policy carries a £100 excess for buildings & £100 for contents. If the property is unoccupied the buildings excess is £500, there is no contents cover.

Q:  I let out a leasehold flat and the freeholder arranges the buildings cover, do I need to arrange any insurance myself?

A:  Rentshield Direct offer a policy which is designed specifically for these arrangements. We offer landlords contents only, which will also cover you for property owner’s liability.


Q:  Do you offer accidental damage?

A:  Accidental damage is included for fixed glass, sanitary fixtures and ceramic hobs, as well as televisions, video recorders and computers. Additional accidental cover is optional at a further premium.

Q:  What happens if I wish to cancel my policy?

A:  You are entitled to cancel your insurance policy at any stage during the policy term. You have a period of 14 days in which to consider the content of your insurance policy, and the extent of the cover therein. Cancellation of your policy within 14 days is therefore subject to a full refund. Cancellation after 14 days will be refunded pro rata, less any commission or fees.
